SPRING Lacrosse Season

Lacrosse is a fast-paced, contact sport that combines aspects of soccer, basketball and hockey all while using a stick. Players can be of any size.  The game requires agility, coordination and coachability.

Lacrosse ( “LAX” for short) is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation, state and especially at Warren High School. Warren Youth Lacrosse provide a Spring Lacrosse season within the Illinois Boys Lacrosse Association (IBLA). We organize activities outside the Spring season that are led by our group as well. We also encourage our players to join local Lacrosse Club teams to help improve their skills and game IQ.

WALA aka Warren Youth Lacrosse is one of the top community lacrosse programs in the Lake County. Since 2011, our Spring Lacrosse season provides excellent conditioning to keep your youth athlete in shape during the offseason for fall and winter sports. New and experienced plays are always welcome.

Pre-Season Activities.

Open Gym sessions occur in January and February on Sunday Evenings at the Warren O'Plaine High School Field House. These sessions are FREE to all attendees. This is the perfect time for new players to try out lacrosse! WALA coaches will lead players through drills to develop and sharpen their skills to prepare for the Spring season. We have used pads, helmets and sticks for new players to use (as stock is available). A reminder email will be sent multiple times prior and during these sessions. Please sign up for these and all WALA communications by clicking HERE.

Spring Teams.

As part of the IBLA, WALA fields teams that best match the skill and experience level of our players. The IBLA has multiple levels within each age group. This allows us to field competitive teams based on the make-up of each team. The B-level teams are generally made up of players with multiple years of lacrosse experience for the division. The C-level teams are for developmental teams where the majority of players are new to lacrosse. Team placement for Spring lacrosse involves coaches and IBLA and occurs in March.

Spring Season Info.

WALA begins the Spring Season with a Parent Kick Off Meeting. This meeting provides all the information the WALA board and coaches know about the upcoming season. We highly encourage attending this meeting so that you are well informed and can ask any further questions you may have. New uniform designs (distributed every 2 years) are presented as wells as Team Picture Day and much more.

Practices begin in March usually right after the Open Gyms. Practices are 2-3 days per week. The days and times are determined by each teams' coaches. Practices are located on the fields behind the Warren O'Plaine High School football stadium (due to field lighting needed for the early Spring practices).

Spring season games occur during April and May and are mostly on the weekends. Due to the uncertainty of Spring weather, make up games may be scheduled for some weekday nights. Warren Youth Lacrosse home games are played on the Warren O'Plaine High School football turf field or the practiced fields behind the stadium if the turf field is not available.

The IBLA End-of-Season tournament is scheduled for the first weekend of June. Your team's standing in the tournament is based on your Spring season standing. Trophies are given to the top teams of each division.

We have a great line-up of coaches who are all volunteers. Like all youth sports organizations, we are always looking for coaches who are willing to offer their valuable time and leadership. There is no need to know much about lacrosse. You will join an impressive club of parent coaches who made the jump and became outstanding lacrosse coaches. More importantly, they had a positive impact on our young athletes. If you are interested, contact your coach or click on Contact Us at the top of the page.
